When it comes to injuries it is important to treat
them correctly from the get-go. When I say injuries, I
mean wrenching your back, jamming your finger,
pulling a hamstring, straining muscles, ligament
sprains, rolling your ankle etc. We want to create an
ideal healing environment for optimal healing efficiency. At the first signs of injury/strain go through,
what the professionals call, RICE (Rest Ice Compression Elevation).
Rest-Take time off from exercise and activities so your body can go through the natural process of healing.
Ice-Will help to reduce pain and inflammation, creating an optimal healing environment
Compression-Will help push out inflammation through the lymphatic system
Elevation-Gravity will also help to pull out some inflammation
Do not use any heat until all the inflammation is out because heat brings blood to the area which will
increase inflammation. The old days of ice and heat back and forth, are OUT!
The most important take away is TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! At first
sign of injury and pain, do your best to Ice right away and follow RICE.
