Tracking your calories and activity for weight loss SUCCESS!

Okay, I did some research this morning on some websites that track calories and activity and wanted to share what I found.  If you are really trying to lose weight, it is important to know how many calories you need to consume, how many  you are consuming and how many you are expending.  Now, there is no way that you can just know this automatically, sure we can have a general idea, but gauging your food intake solely on hunger can set you up for failure because there is something called "false hunger"-which comes from a wide array of things such as stress, diet, stomach acid etc.  Losing weight is really a simple formula and can be easy once you figure it out.  

Weight Loss = Expenditure > Intake 

**so basically expend more than you eat-through your metabolism and activity.

The benefit of doing a food journal or tracking your calorie/expenditure is that you can get a good idea of where your at and know EXACTLY where you are in the calorie game.  The goal for healthy weight loss is to expend 500 more calories a day than you consume, for a weekly weight loss of 1 pound.  The weight loss can potentially be greater if you are working out at an intense level because these workouts expend calories AFTER you are finished.

This is a great website-my favorite for calorie tracking because it also tracks activity, and WATER!  Very easy to use and also offers a phone app.

www.my-calorie-counter.com/
This is another good website for calorie counting alone.  Does not track activity and water though and offers an iphone app.

www.acefitness.org
The website for the American Council on Exercise.  This is what I use in my personal training assessments to calculate in general on a daily basis how many calories a person needs and what they expend through regular exercise routines.  You can also get your target heart rate and BMI as well.  This website offers an exercise library, recipes and much more.  Go to the "GetFit" icon for the fitness tools and calculators (calories, heart rate, etc.)

Start tracking your calories and expenditure today and see RESULTS!  Food journaling makes yourself ACCOUNTABLE for what you are putting into your mouth!
